The Blues Scale And The I IV V Progression

Blues ScaleBlues guitar can be as simple or as complicated as you like. You can use the I IV V chord progression as a basis for your first blues improvisation. The roman numerals refer to the chords you are using. The chords are named the same as the notes in the major scale, so if you want to play in the key of E you will be looking for the first, fourth and fifth notes in the scale, which are E, A and B. In blues it is common to use seventh chords, so you could use E, A7 and B7. You should be able to find some tabs for twelve bar blues songs by doing a Google search, so you will be able to see how the songs use this progression.
