How To Get Your Hands Working Together On The Guitar
Some newbie guitarists feel that they can navigate the guitar fretboard without too much trouble but their picking hand is not moving in co-ordination with their fretting hand. Co-ordination is acquired over a period of time by slow practice. You might go through a stage where you notice some improvement after a practice session but you are back at the start the next time you pick up the guitar. You will get through this stage to where you notice your co-ordination gets better in general. It just takes patience. Sadly, if you want to play fast, you tend to want to play fast NOW!!! You need to ditch the impatience and just practice.
The metronome is a great tool if you want to learn how to play the guitar fast. Start with setting it at a comfortable speed and increasing it one notch every time you feel you have gotten a bit faster. As for what to practice, alternate picking will be a big help so if you are learning new scales, combine this with your quest for speed. One trick a lot of guitar players use is to practice in front of the TV.
