How To Play The F Chord On Guitar
Chords are basic units of your ability to make music on the guitar. Chords are combinations of notes played in unison. Played as a string of separate notes, they are called arpeggios. The F chord is a barre chord. It is based on the shape of the E major chord, but moved up one fret so that the first finger lies across all six strings instead of just fingering the third string at the first fret.
The F chord will probably be the first barre chord you learn and it will take a lot of practice. Some guitar teachers have suggested that barre chords are the reason that many beginners give up the guitar. Some guitarists never come to terms with learning the F chord as a barre chord, even after some years of playing. None of them that I have spoken to have thought it was a good thing to avoid playing barre chords.
