How To Find The Best Lessons For The Guitar Beginner

Launching your career as a guitar beginner is pretty exciting and it is very difficult when it is all new, to decide which guitar lessons to take. Unfortunately, learning to play the guitar is hard work and finding the best guitar lessons is just the beginning. Finding the best guitar lessons will take some thinking about where you want to go as a guitar player and trying to see how this compares with the guitar lessons that are available.

You probably have a guitar teacher in your neighborhood. At least someone who can play the guitar and is advertising that he is giving lessons. They usually have an hourly charge and ask you to sign up for a term of maybe ten or twelve lessons. Your local guitar teacher probably has had some experience as a professional guitar player. If he has not, you could ask yourself whether you really want to be taught by someone with little hands-on experience as a working guitar player.

If you do not have a number of guitar teachers in your area to choose from, then your next best bet is to start looking at the guitar lessons that are available on the internet. Just as a generalization internet guitar lessons can be in the form of books and CDs or your lessons could be available as a membership to a website.

You can expect to be offered basic stuff that you need in order to learn guitar, like a tuner and a metronome. With some guitar lesson packages you will be given the choice of having books, CDs and DVDs delivered to your home or the lessons can be in the shape of a download. If you take the download choice, make sure you copy it to a disc so that you do not lose it, plus keep your record of purchasing the course in case you ever need to ask for another copy.

Naturally internet guitar courses are convenient but you may not be aware that even the most expensive online guitar lesson courses are way cheaper than you local guitar teacher. And that is only the cost of lessons. Factor in the cost in time and money of travelling to and from your teacher’s studio once a week and the internet lesson choice puts you way ahead.

Taking guitar lessons by joining a membership guitar site is probably your allround best choice. It means the people running the site have a wide choice of teachers from around the world and they usually have some kind of email or video feedback system where you can have your questions about your guitar lessons answered by your teacher. Membership sites also regularly update their teaching material on a regular basis which is not the case with the courses you get delivered as books and discs or as downloads. With those, what you get is all you get.

So from a monetary point of view online lessons are a better option than one on one lessons, and membership sites give better value than guitar lessons given as a static product. There is one more important thing you need to bear in mind. The genre you are interested in. If you feel that a the guitar lesson sites that teach by subscription do not have enough emphasis on, say, acoustic blues then you would be better off buying course that specializes in the music that interests you.
