How To Palm Mute On Electric Guitar
Palm muting is a technique used a lot in metal guitar music and also on acoustic guitar. Basically, your right hand rests on the strings while you strum or pick. In order to learn how to palm mute on guitar you need to practice till you strike a happy medium between making the sound totally inaudible and having the strings ring out in a half-assed fashion. So it’s a question of how much pressure you put on the strings.
To mute the guitar strings, you need to rest the heel of your hand on the strings close to the bridge. The first job is to mute the strings while still keeping a comfortable playing position. This is where time and practice come in. Start with the first finger of the left hand on the fifth fret of the sixth string and the second finger on the seventh fret. Play those two strings to make sure you are not accidentally muting them, and then try striking then with the pick while your picking hand is resting on them.
